Mentoring and student success are what drive me as Director of Undergraduate Research and Mentoring here at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. I completed my Ph.D. in 2017 at Oklahoma State University working in Dr. Don French's science education research lab in the Department of Integrative Biology. Prior to joining the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, I postdoced at Baylor University, the University of Nebraska - Lincoln, and the University of California Davis. My current research interests are in STEM Inclusion Perceptions and Behavior. I have also previously been interested in researching student motivation and behavior as a measurement of the effectiveness of the flipped classroom and active learning techniques. I have also conducted research that looks at undergraduate persistence in life science courses and majors through participation in undergraduate research. It is my goal to inspire and develop students' interests in biology research and education. My research team is comprised of mostly undergraduates (for previous lab members click here).

My major: biology
Classes I’ve LA’d for: Fundamental of GOB Chemistry and LA Mentor
Favorite part: My favorite part about being an LA is seeing the direct impact you can have on a student and their success in a course. You also get to meet such a wide range of students on campus and build so many new friendships. The LA program has made the biggest impact on me since being in college; it developed my communication skills and showed me parts of myself that I didn’t even know existed. If it hadn’t of been for the LA program I wouldn’t know how much I love teaching others.

Next Step: Starting medical school in the fall (2023) at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS).
